Another month has passed!!! I haven't been too productive because I've been on the road traveling around visiting with friends and family and not doing much painting. I did hang a few paintings (5) at Cafe Zia's with artist Tom Dimock. The cafe is located at county road C2 and Lexington just north of the Central Park entrance on Lex. I'll be back at the painting game soon with my co artists at Ginny's studio and at the paintouts on Wednesdays. Signing out..Emmy

Well, The Fourth of July has come and gone and the fireworks have stopped in the alley near by. The weather is extremely muggy and doing watercolor in humidity with mosquitoes is challenging. I can't even show the last two paintings so the only new painting is the one of my two studio 4 mates, Ginny and Barb. Today and tomorrow I am packing up paintings to take to Cal deRuyter's studio on Christina Lake north of Evansville west of Alexandria, MN. This will be an Art tour and I recommend th... The three shows are finished....it was great to see so many friends with happy faces come and enjoy the moment with me. The show at Robbin Gallery is still up until the end of June. I'll be there both Saturdays, the 18th and 25th from 12-4....so if you want to drop in, do please......I am especially pleased with this show. There are four artists and we have been painting together every Tuesday for at least five years, maybe more.....the show is exciting and expresses our abstract art. The... Continue reading...

Yikes and all of that. Here it is May already. We have had close to 90 degree days and now we are back to the 50's and I have my wool sweater back on. We have three big shows in the next few weeks and I sure hope to see you there. Art on a Line and Art a Whirl. and Studio 4 at Robbin Gallery. I will be there for all three. I think I'll try and make an extra page for each one so you can refer to that section of my website for info. Anyway, my son Brian is also helping me with framing. ... Continue reading...

I am writing again in April...It snowed last night and there is once again snow on the roofs of houses and on my tulips. I am thinking a lot about what to do for the demonstration I have been asked to do at Art on the Line May 14....I said I would do a still life with joy and energy, or something like that, so I'm trying to come up with what I want to say and what I want to do. Some friends have volunteered to sit in the front row and could be part of the painting as in "life is still" conc... Continue reading...

I have been in sunny warm Florida and have been by the ocean with my sister and her husband on Sanibel Island. Yikes, I feel so grateful and fortunate....Here's some of my watercolors, not so good, but at least I did paint a few. I just hung the show at the American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge, which is a place for cancer patients and their families to stay while in treatment. It is close to the U of M campus. While there, I met some wonderful people and noticed four kitchens with many ref... Continue reading...

It continues to be winter in Minnesota.....the only sign of Spring are the days getting a bit longer and the sun a bit higher. The snow keeps on a coming and the icicles grow longer by the day. I'm happy to have my painting to keep me warm. There must be a song in this lament somewhere. A couple of weeks ago I went to the Friday night Old Town Artists model session. A young boy, son of one of the artists, sat for us. Here's my rendition. Continue reading...

It's been a good month so far. I went to San Diego with good friends and enjoyed the time immensely. Although it was too cold for me to paint masterpieces....ha ha, the excuse is interesting....I loved being near the waves and the seals, and the brown pelicans with the cormorants hanging out on the rocks. People were even swimming at the La Jolla cove with wet suits on, but some brave souls had no problem without wet suits and I sat watching with two jackets on, mittens and my Minnesota h... Wow, it's been a whole month since I have written. I painted a new painting this week of oranges in a bowl and I do like the painting. Other work I have done this new year has been a series that will be revealed in the future. In coordination with five other artists, a project is developing called, "Escape Artists" and has been uddles of fun. Later I will show you what it is all about. I did paint a hopeful painting of Target field, the Twins Stadium. I can't wait until baseball starts.... Continue reading...

With all this snow, you would think that I'd be painting a lot, but as always around the Holiday Season, there are things to do and chores that keep me from painting. But I did the above painting of shoveling and of my view outside my front door, and last week I saw the most spectacular site....Three Sun Dogs, rainbows that shoot straight up from the horizon at sunrise reflecting an almost rainbow through ice crystals in the air. They say that sundogs herald in storms and that was certainly... Continue reading...

Thanksgiving is almost here and I do have a new turkey painting, called King Ala Turkey and I will post it as soon as I figure out my new computer. Here is one of my paintings done at the workshop. I'm not being very productive right now and there are alot of reasons, of course, but they are all excuses. With my art, I hope to paint on and on without these mental blocks. I think negative mental messages are the problem, like "why am I painting? Nothing looks good in this dim November ligh... Continue reading...

I am back from the Skip Lawrence workshop....It was great and I wish you could have been there to see all the creativity in the room. Skip encourages you to spread your wings and fly.....I guess my paintings didn't fly very far but I think I did a few good ones. We sent them back by Fed ex so until then, I am unable to show them to you. Also we went to the Andy Warhol show at the Baltimore Art Institute, and also saw the Cone collection of Matisse paintings. All Wonderful!!!! Emmy ... Continue reading...

We are getting ready for Art Attack the First weekend in November. I hope you all can come. The Bloomington art center member show will start next week Oct 22nd. I won't make the reception for I'm going to Baltimore for a Skip Lawrence workshop. I'm so excited. Seeing old friends, painting everyday, laughing a lot,...it has got to be the best thing in the world for me. Anyway, I do have a painting at Bloomington. The painting that got rejected at the State Fair was juried into the Bloo... Continue reading...

Well, I participated in the Grand Marias Paint out although I was only there four days out of the ten. It was a very exciting time. the scenery is breathtaking although my paintings are not as wonderful. Here are a few. The Owatonna Show is opening on Sept 7. I wish you all could see it for I think it will be a good show. I have paintings of Owatonna that I did this summer and I am joined in the show with Dick Graves and Cal deRuyter. Directions on how to get there are under Calendar o... Continue reading...

Wow, it sure has been a long time since I have written. It seems the summer and painting outside and with my friends has gone by so very quickly. I was part of an Art Tour centered around Battle Lake, MN at the invitation of Cal deRuyter who has an art studio on Lake Christina. It was a fun time and we met many people traveling the blue highways to find us and our paintings. If you are one of the adventurous, thanks for coming. Now I'm getting ready to join Cal and Dick Graves in a show ... Continue reading...
