It's hard to believe that I haven't posted since February.  Not much has happened but I have continued to paint about twice a week and now I'm getting ready for Art A Whirl.  Art A Whirl is an extravaganza in NE Minneapolis including many artists studios.  My studio is located in a big warehouse that used to package Northrup King Seeds, thus the building is called Northrup King Building. On The weekend of May 20 through May 22 NE Minneapolis should be THE place to go for art visiting and havi...

time goes by and I haven't blogged for a while.  Yes, I'm still painting but it seems that I've cut back a bit.
Art a Whirl is coming up in May and there will be some shows to enter this Spring.  I've been part of a daily sketch group on facebook called " these 12 paint daily. " This has been fascinating to me.  The other artists paint what is happening in their lives at the moment and it is most impressive. Here is one of my sketches after hearing a knock knock knock at my door at midnight....

Wow we are at the end of the year and it has been a most rewarding year.  I have enjoyed some sales of my work and have had two great solo shows that were fun.  Going into 2016 I'm thinking of my goals.  I am most happy when I'm creating a painting out of what is happening either in my head rf in front of me as in a still life or plein air.  When I don't know what to paint I just start in and something comes up that is important to me at the time.  I hope to see you soon at the Northrup King ...

OK  I updated my website today and am just stopping off at the blog spot to say HI.  There is nothing new here except that I did paint a Thanksgiving painting this year and will post it closer to the Nov date.  Our paint outs have discontinued for me since it has gotten chilly, so I will be painting on Wednesday with the group at the church in Roseville.  Life is good.  Take care and consider coming to Northrup King Building for Art Attack Nov 6,7, and 8.

Hello again.  We are having summer in September.  The grass is growing like the weeds and mowing chores continue.  I thought I would stop this morning to greet you and let you know that I am still painting and still growling about bad paintings.  We have continued the plein air paint outs and next will be on the Mississippi next to a lake called Pickerel.  Here is a painting I did at my friend's studio.  I'll write next month when things calmed down a bit.

Hello,  friends  I have been amiss in writing on my blog.  Why???  I have no real good excuse.  I'm painting now outside and that presents a problem for most of my pieces are really not very good.   I post one a week on facebook but that is just a commitment I made to myself to put some publicity out about our great paint out times.  We go to many spots over the two cities and it is great for the soul to be with other painters, talking and sharing.  Here is one painting that is new that was n...

I've been out of commission for about five weeks!  Yikes!  I won't go into the details but am very glad to be back and starting to paint again.  I realize how very much painting means to me and " so it goes" as Kurt Vonnegut might say.  I"m getting ready now for Art A Whirl, the big art crawl in NE Minneapolis May 15, 16, and 17..  Also the Art Market, sponsored by Norhtstar Watermedia Society will be May 29 and 30.  This sale will be in the State Fair Grounds at the Fine Arts Building.  If y...

Thank you to all my friends and family who came to my show at the St Stephen's Lutheran Church in Bloomington.  It was a happy moment in my life.  And it turned out that the Women's Press magazine came out with my painting on the cover and an interview inside.  what a thrill.  Then I came down with a cold and now I haven't one iota of passion to paint.  I hope that doesn't last too long. Life is chock full of surprises.   I'll write again when I recover.

With the Winter dragging us down with it's insistent survival, I tend to resist painting winter, snow, shoveling, pine trees laden with snow.  As beautiful as it seems, I just can't do it.  I turn now to yellow, pink and violet forcing the intention of warmth and happiness.  Yes, it may seem like I'm pushing things but what the heck, it makes me feel good.  So here is my latest, called "It's a Lazy Afternoon".  After seeing the George Morrison retrospective show at the Minneapolis Institute, ...

In four days, Valentine's Day will happen.  It brings back the fun in grade school with little punch out valentines to give to everyone in the class.  A big decorated box by the door with a mail slot on top, is the memory I have.  So here's your valentine I painted last week.  Remember, Love is All there Is.

So far, this winter stands out as unusual in that we have less snow and milder temps than less freezing, snowy year.  It is a respite.  I was thinking of the word "unusual" and began singing, "It's a most Unusual Day" and the natural reaction to that is to paint it.  So I did and here it is.  See you soon.  Emmy

Oh My it is a new year and I'm just checking in now.  I've been painting.  Yes, I have been painting but I have sent most of them to the basement for a rest period while I determine their future, whether destroy, improve or make into something else like cut them into valentines.  I certainly know that creating paintings is and up and down affair.  I love when the break through suddenly happens. I find it interesting but frustrating to observe.  I'm definitely at a down time now.  The painting...
